The 2012 Preakness didn't finish exactly the way oddsmakers projected it would, but it was as close to script as you could expect.
Bodemeister, the odds-on favorite, led throughout the race only to be caught in the final strides by I'll Have Another. The Derby winner took home the second leg of the Triple Crown in dramatic fashion and left everyone watching beside themselves with excitement...well, except for those who bet and lost on the race.
Even the winners had to be a little disappointed, as I'll Have Another paid $8.20 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. The favored Bodemeister paid $3.20 to place and $2.80 to show, and Creative Cause rounded out the money with $3.60 to show.
The $2 exacta wasn't great at $18.60, nor was the $1 trifecta at $35.40, but the $1 superfecta was decent at $424.30.
With the two favorites coming in 1-2, and another top contender finishing third, only the superfecta winners found any bang for their buck at the Preakness Stakes.
